Why I Named This School
After Ada Lovelace.

Ada Lovelace was born into a world that had no framework for what she was thinking. In 1843, working alongside Charles Babbage on his Analytical Engine, she wrote what is now recognized as the first algorithm intended for execution by a machine — decades before the concept of a computer existed in any meaningful form. She was not simply translating Babbage's ideas. She was extending them into territory he had not imagined, asking what a machine could do beyond arithmetic — whether it could compose music, generate graphics, produce anything that required not just calculation but creative reasoning.

I dedicated ESA's School of Artificial Intelligence to Ada Lovelace because she represents the exact spirit this program is built on: the refusal to accept the current boundaries of what a system can do as its final limits. Every student in this school is continuing her work — not with the Analytical Engine, but with large language models, generative systems, and the profound philosophical questions those systems have forced back into public discourse. What is intelligence? What is creativity? What is the difference between a machine that calculates and a mind that thinks? Ada Lovelace asked these questions first. ESA asks them still.
